The Aeolian Islands Preservation Fund (AIPF) is a non-governmental independent trust, born in London last year that helps to preserve the exceptional value and natural beauty of the Aeolian Islands, promoting and supporting sustainable initiatives on the Aeolian territory, related to environment, culture, local crafts and promotion of traditional and natural farming.

Thanks to the founders Luca Del Bono and Ben Goldsmith, the coordinator Federica Tesoriero and many lovers of the Aeolian Islands that have decided to donate, the Fund in its first year of life has already supported two projects related to the education of children: “Dolphins Guardian of the sea” Marevivo and the “Edible school gardens” with Slow Food conduct, as well as having sponsored several initiatives in the Aeolian and in London. The priority for 2016 is the protection and preservation of the Aeolian sea. Since one year in fact, the AIPF team started to collaborate with the Municipality of Lipari, the Coast Guard and local associations in the area; thanks to the support of the BLUE Marine Foundation, they will launch in the fall a project funded by Marks & Spencer and another for the necessary mapping of the seabed and the coast of the islands, in order to put the first steps towards the creation of protected areas in the sea, inspired by virtuous models around the world.

The sea of the Aeolian encompasses immeasurable treasures, both in biodiversity, both in terms of archeology, important geo-sites and active and submerged volcanoes. This uniqueness of the Aeolian Islands, located in the center of the Mediterranean leads, brings into an important reflection about their future and their conservation. For this reason, the AIPF, hosted by Raya Foundation, is organizing a major event in Panarea, with the special participation of the Minister for the Environment and for the protection of the Land and the Sea, Gian Luca Galletti with a ministerial and regional delegation to open a debate on this issue.
The AIPF with the contribution of BLUE, ISPRA, the Superintendent of the Sea, international biologists and network of stakeholders has arisen, promotes a meeting to talk about nature and how to begin to protect all together these beautiful islands.

The event is scheduled for next August 1st in Panarea, in the splendid setting of the Hotel Raya.
