Blue Marine Foundation and the Aeolian Islands Preservation Fund have purchased a RIB power boat with the purpose of supporting and encouraging scientific activities in the Aeolian Islands.
In September, the first two Research Institutes were involved in undertaking studies with the aim of deepening knowledge on the Health state of the Aeolian Islands sea and providing valuable information for future conservation plans.
Groups of Research involved are The University Federico II , mapping the microbial communities, which populate the extreme marine environments of the Aeolian Islands and The Polytechnic University of Marche, which has conducted an underwater census of priority benthic species, highlighted by the Habitat Directive and the Barcelona Convention (the study).
The long-term objective is to raise awareness on the importance of protecting the Aeolian Islands sea, whose waters are home to vulnerable habitats, many of which are internationally protected by European standards.
