This summer, thanks to the support of the Aeolian Islands Preservation Fund, the PuliAMO Lipari project grows and expands: up until September, twice a month, the Aeolian Magazzino di Mutuo Soccorso association will take care of the island of Lipari freeing the beaches and paths from waste, and with the involvement of the children of the Lipari middle schools. We will also organize kayaking outings to reach even the most remote bays.

The PuliAMO Lipari project has been going on since last November: once a month beaches are chosen, those of which are cleaned of waste.

The aim is freeing the island from waste and spreading environmental awareness – especially among children – through practical and useful actions.

The idea is that only by taking care of and physically regaining its territory can we really protect and enhance nature.

There are many organisations and individuals that are locally active: the ambition is to put these groups into a system and give a regular rhythm to the meetings involving more and more people, in the belief that union is strength.

To date, in 6 events, more than 50 people and 3 associations have been involved (LegambientEolie, Marevivo Sicilia and Noidipanarea); cleaning 3 of the main beaches of Lipari (Canneto, Marina Lunga and Porticello) and have contributed to the cleaning of a Panarea beach and of the area around the waste depot; collecting over 80 bags of waste (mainly plastic and polystyrene) and a

noteworthy quantity of bulky materials (wheels, machine parts, strollers, umbrellas, figors,

scrap metal, sheet metal and bins …).

The Aeolian Islands Preservation Fund has been supporting environmental protection projects in these islands for years. The collaboration with Magazzino di Mutuo Soccorso was born out of the will to support the most active and proactive local organisations. Each of us can do something to protect the nature of the islands.

The Magazzino di Mutuo Soccorso and the Aeolian Islands Preservation Fund invite everyone to join the beach cleanups, for the sake of the environment and to give visitors and tourists the opportunity to discover the natural beauty that Lipari offers.
