Since Spring, entrepreneurs in the hospitality sector of Lipari and Panarea, pilot islands of the project, are able to count on a task force led by Mia Caleca and Pippo Manera, that are supporting them in managing efficiently the transition to the elimination of disposable plastic.This pandemic, with its waste of disposable material, has unfortunately slowed down a process fully initiated institutionally by the Municipality of Lipari, which had already banned the trade and use of disposable plastic on a global level.
The initiative of Marevivo and Oceanic Global, financed by the Aeolian Islands Preservation Foundation, with the backing of Carey Taylor, Cyril Lefrevre and other generous donors, aims to encourage entrepreneurs to kick off this path, but also to reward and enhance those structures that have long ago set among their objectives sustainability.
The three partners will provide plastic-free alternatives to the hospitality and tourism sector on the islands, implementing Oceanic Global’s program, The Oceanic Standard (TOS), and adapting it to the specific needs of the territory. The Oceanic Standard program is an open-source resource created by Oceanic Global in collaboration with hundreds of sustainable suppliers and experienced industrial partners.
The Chairman of the Foundation, Cav. Luca Del Bono, declares: “We are extremely happy to carry out this project with Marevivo and Oceanic Global, an initiative that supports what has been done in recent years to discourage the consumption of plastic by local administrations and associations with which the foundation collaborates. AIPF is particularly concerned with the issue of pollution and will continue to support initiatives that protect the nature of the Aeolian Islands. “
Marevivo and Oceanic Global have developed as part of their respective mission routes aimed at the tourism sector (bars, hotels, B & Bs, restaurants, beach clubs) to help entrepreneurs in the transition to the elimination of disposable plastic by providing lines guides that facilitate the change process. The two associations share the same values concerning the importance of protecting and conserving resources as well as raising public awareness of waste with particular attention to the impact of disposable plastic on the environment.
